The difference between an expensive website design and affordable website design is not necessarily the standard of quality. Many websites are “customized”, and requires many long hours, even weeks, of a web designer’s dedication and skilled work. For most small businesses, a less expensive website design also requires dedication and skill, but lesser hours. You can have a simple website that you can refer clients and prospects to that will give your company an online presence, but you need not worry that it will be of low quality.

Reasonable cost for a website is not our only guarantee; we also make sure our websites are of high quality whether you are looking for a low-cost website or a high-cost website. Whether you are looking for a one-page cheap website design or a large custom website with hundreds of pages, a quality website design firm should be with you from start to finish.

The vast majority of websites are being built using a Content Management System (CMS) like WordPress, Joomla or Drupal. What that means is that all CMS websites start with a template. The cost of the website is in direct relation to how many changes (hours) the designer or programmer needs to put into the website. The fewer the changes, the lower the cost. It’s simple math.

The other benefit of WordPress (or other platforms with CMS) is that you do not need to be a programmer to make basic changes to your website. Modifying text, adding or removing pages, adding images or videos are easy. If fact with all websites we build, we provide you with tutorials (text and video) to show you how to make most changes yourself with no programming experience.

HTML websites are built from scratch unless the designer modifies a previous website they have built and customizes it for you. HTML websites are typically much more expensive than WordPress or other CMS websites because they are built from scratch and require 60 plus hours to code. The other challenge with HTML websites is that any changes (text changes, add pages, videos, etc.) going forward must be performed by the designer which costs you money ($50- $100 per hour) each time a change is required. This is of course unless you have learned how to code in HTML in which case you could make any modifications yourself.

Some ask, “I can buy a website on Kijiji, Craigslist or similar for $300, why would I pay $1500 or more?”.   In most cases, you get what you pay for. You may find that diamond in the rough, just starting out that is looking to get a few referrals to build their business. However, the likelihood of that happening is slim. Designers just starting out are not familiar with website structure, that only happens after years of experience. Also, they likely do not know which plugins are good and which can cause problems or open your website up to hackers or malware. Many use outdated templates that are not responsive (mobile friendly) or are no longer supported by their creator.

You really have to ask yourself this question. If someone has years of experience, why would they only charge $300 for a website? In most cases, they would be working for minimum wage or less.

While the bulk of the websites we design are custom sites with additional features and functionality, we also believe that affordable websites should be available to independent professionals and small businesses at an affordable price.

Remember, the price is based on how many hours of work are put into your website. The fewer changes you have will reduce your cost. Less template modifications will also ensure that your website will be truly responsive. Sometimes, if you change the design too much, you will start running into problems where your website will not display properly on certain mobile devices or browsers. This can be fixed however that means more hours and greater expense to you.

It all starts with having an experienced designer that knows the best current template to start with that will require the fewest amount of adjustments to keep your costs under control.

We further believe that you should not have to pay a web designer to do simple updates to your website like adding some text or adding a page. All websites come with training so you will know how (if you desire) to make modifications to your website. You will be able to add pages, text images, videos and update these pages on your own as often as you like.
